Even in the age of the empowered home handyman (or handywoman), not many homeowners would be willing to take on a slab leak by themselves, or to swap out their own water heaters. It is a wise thing to leave the big jobs to the professionals, but if one is willing to spend a little bit of money on tools and educate oneself on the basics of residential plumbing, one can get a little dirty and save some money in the process by doing certain repairs themselves.

Educate Yourself First

Thanks to the World Wide Web, it isn’t too hard to dredge up some fairly informative videos or instruction manuals that can get you through the task. There is no shortage of testimonials in which people are willing to share the secrets to the their success – and the pitfalls that led them to fail. Some of the larger hardware stores may also hold classes from time to time demonstrating the ins-and-outs of what goes on behind the cubboard doors under your kitchen sink.

Tools of the Trade

The first thing you will need are the tools of the trade. It goes beyond the traditional plunger (although that is important). The culturally dominant icon of the monkey wrench, however, is probably not something that most people will ever use, especially since most modern plumbing consists of plastic (PVC) fitments. One of most important tools you can have on hand is the sink auger, commonly referred to as a “snake”. It’s basically a length of wound-up cable on a big, enclosed reel, which you feed down a clogged drain or toilet in hopes of clearing the blockage.

An adjustable (crescent) wrench is great to have around, not just for plumbing but for most any basic home repair. Items such as plumber’s tape and plumber’s putty are useful in the right hands. If you really get good at it, you may want to pick up a tubing cutter and bender, but again, metallic pipes are quickly becoming a thing of the past. If you have these common tools on hand, but still can’t get the job done, that’s probably a good sign that it’s time to bring in a professional plumber in Phoenix, AZ to tackle the job… But at least you can say you tried!

You want that first date to be fun, entertaining and perfect. However, before making that first date there are certain things you can do that will make your first date fun and memorable. Bringing along a cell phone and enough money for your first date are two essentials that will make your first date go smoother and with less tension.

Think about your Relationship

Then, think about the relationship you have with this person. If you have known your date mate for awhile and know their likes and dislikes, then coordinate with that special person on what to do on that first date. For instance, if you know that your date likes movies, you might want to go out for dinner and then a movie. Seeing a movie works well for those who have known each other for awhile. If however, your date has an interest in bowling and you’ve only known this person a short time, you might want to bowl a few games. Bowling makes for a good first date because you have time in between the games to talk, laugh and share bowling tips. Visit the bowling pro shop before hand to get advice on what lane to use.

What do you have in Common?

Another important point that will help make your first date perfect and memorable is to find out what you have in common. Talk with your date and find out what interests he or she has in common with you. Perhaps you both have an interest in books, going to college or outside activities such as jogging or bicycling. Think ahead about what you want to talk about during the date. This will help keep the conversation going.

Because you want that first date to be worthwhile and pleasant, pick a good time for the date. You want that first date to be as soon as possible so that your date won’t forget but you also don’t want to appear too eager. You also need to be specific about what time you will pick up your date and where you will go. Make sure to confirm your reservations in advance—if you are planning to dine at a fancy restaurant. And, if your date is somewhat forgetful, you may want to call the day before to confirm the date–to see if the date is still on.

Whether one is sporting a ring that can cut glass, a star-striking necklace or a tennis bracelet that could be used to signal Navy ships off the coast, diamonds say everything about a person without uttering a single word. Years ago, the finest diamond jewelry never made it very far inland, with buyers on the East and West Coasts snaring the cream of the crop for themselves.

Stay Local

Now, one need not venture out to Los Angeles, New York or Miami to find high-quality inventory. Some of the better known jewelers have opened outlets in just about every major metropolitan area, sure, but home-grown jewelry stores have also been putting some excellent pieces in their display windows. The desert southwest has become a hotbed for jewelry of all kinds, including the Santo Domingo Pueblo near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Finding the Perfect Piece

Finding precious gems is always a science that should be approached with the assistance of an educated party. Reputable stores will have knowledgeable sales staff waiting to assist you in your search for the ring, necklace, bracelet or broach that will help you best express yourself. With their experience and fashion sense as to what looks good in the desert (as opposed to something you’d wear at the beach) those who know Tucson diamonds and jewelry will keep you looking your finest without sending you to the ends of the Earth.

Every year people buy new artwork from local artists, art shows, galleries and on the Internet then take that artwork to get framed. Once the framing job is finished they bring the artwork home and hate it or they realize that the artwork lost whatever it had they made them buy it. What causes this problem? It’s all about the presentation.

How To Avoid Buyer’s Remorse With Art

If you’re searching for affordable Tucson picturing framing company or are interested in having your artwork framed anywhere else in the world it’s important that you are there every step of the way to give your input on how you would like to see your artwork framed. It’s important to give feedback the framing process from the colors of the mat that you choose, style of the frame and the hardware for hanging the artwork in your home.

Some simple tips that you should follow when framing artwork are:

Choose a frame that doesn’t take the viewer’s eyes away from the art.

Make sure that if you opt for non-glare glass when framing your art work because artwork that’s framed under glass can stick to the glass over time and will be impossible to be removed if you ever have to reframe it.

Always make sure that the frame has the best wire and hangers possible because bad hardware can cause the artwork to come crashing to the floor under its own weight.

Presentation Colors

Choosing the right colors for the mat and frame are an important part of the framing process. Before you visit your framer you should look at the furniture and colors of the room that the artwork will be hung in. Your goal with the artwork that you frame is to choose colors that will 1. Compliment the artwork plus draw the viewer’s eye to the artwork and 2. Complement the room that the artwork is hung in. Don’t just hang artwork anywhere in your home or office. Think about how that piece of artwork will look when framed and also in relation to the other pieces to the room because these are factors that will help you to enjoy that artwork long into the future.

Once a year, Tempe Beach Park becomes home to the jovial masses of drunk Arizonians.

Why to Visit the Great Arizona Beer Festival

This year will be the festival’s 23rd run. It benefits the non-profit organization Sun Sounds of Arizona, which provides reading services for the visually impaired. Those who fear overcrowding need not worry, tickets are sold on a limited basis, and there are more beers than ever this year at the event. Each guest gets an empty mug and 24 tastings from a wide selection of quality brews. Aside from the 200 beers that will be at the festival, there will also be live entertainment from the Crown Kinds, as well as food stands.

How to Visit the Great Arizona Beer Festival

The festival will be held on the 5th of March, which is a Saturday. It will run from two o’clock in the afternoon until six at night. The locations is Tempe Beach Park, right on Salado Parkway in Tempe, Arizona. Ticket prices range from $20 to $90. A designated driver ticket is from twenty dollars to thirty dollars, a general admission ticket is from forty to fifty dollars, and a VIP ticket is from eighty dollars to ninety dollars. VIP ticket holders get early admission, private seating, special entertainment, a catered buffer, and not to mention free t-shirts! There is all of this information and more at azbeer.com.

If Arizonians know how to do one thing, it is having fun. The Great Arizona Beer festival is not only great fun, but it is a state tradition, and it is for a good cause.

We have grown comfortable with our even fifty states, and the thought of that number going up to fifty one seems impossible, but it may just happen. With political disputes in the state of Arizona, The Pima County Democratic Party is trying to secede Southern Arizona from the rest of the state.

Differences Between the North and the South

The idea of separating southern Arizona, known as Baja Arizona, from Arizona itself has been around for years, as long as there have been political disagreements between the regions. The north is more conservative, while the south is more liberal. South Arizonians consider the north to be inching more and more towards a Confederate stance on politics, and behaving like it is against the Union. The south believes the north to be over concerned with Republican values, and negligent of the real issues.

Is it Really Possible?

Getting the motion approved with be a struggle, from getting on the ballot, then getting approved by the legislature or from the state voters. Then there is the issue of a new state constitution, and then Congress and the President would have to give the okay as well. But it is definitely possible. Southern Arizona, more specifically Pima County, has over one million residents. Montana, Vermont, and Wyoming have smaller populations than that. Physically, Pima is bigger than some states, including Connecticut and Rhode Island. History proves that it’s possible, the evidence being Maine (once a part of Massachusetts) and West Virginia (once a part of Virginia).

Residents of Baja Arizona say that their differences are too great, and it is far beyond political parties. It would be a lengthy process for the secession to go through, but if it does, we will have to start getting used to a 51st state.

With the rise of managed health care over the last two decades, owning and operating a small private medical practice has become even more difficult. One of the best resources available to doctors and medical health care professionals is a medical answering service. The professionally trained and courteous call service agents employed by a reputable medical answering service provide major benefits to both the physicians and medical businesses they represent and the patients they serve and assist. <

Physicians in the southwestern United States in face a difficult task with handling patient needs over the phone as many prospective patients may speak Spanish or another foreign language. Fortunately for medical practices in Arizona, there is a quality solution for bilingual medical answering services. The Phoenix-based medical answering service, Medical Communications USA, has been providing award-winning telephone answering and patient appointment management services since 1982.

Medical Communications USA provides friendly, reliable answering services to doctors, dentists, and dieticians, and hospitals across Arizona. All of their call service agents act as an extension of the doctor’s office, hospital, or medical practice they represent. They are professionally trained to provide patient appointment management, medical telemessaging, and voicemail services. If requested by the physician or medical practice, the call agents at Medical Communications USA can represent physician’s offices by acting as remote medical receptionists and providing complete virtual assistant services.

By eliminating a dedicated member of their staff or practice secretary, medical professionals can save costs and still feel confident that their patient appointment and messaging is being handled properly. The call center at Phoenix’s Medical Communications USA has a minimum of five calls monitored every week and call service agents must maintain average scores of 90% or better to guarantee that every patient phone call is answered effectively. Professional experienced medical answering service quality control managers train, coach, and monitor all service agent call activity to ensure that patients receive complete customer care and support.

Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords was today critically shot at point blank range in the head, at her first event for the year, a ‘Congress on Your Corner’ meeting she was holding in a supermarket in Tucson, Arizona. She was rushed to Tucson’s University Medical center after the shooting and is now recovering following emergency surgery. Participating surgeon has expressed optimism for her recovery.

At the event 12 people were shot, 6 people have been confirmed dead, including Senior Arizona Federal Judge John M. Roll, and five other attendees including a 9-year old child. Bystanders and the local police tackled the shooter, 21-year Jared Laughner at the scene, and he was then arrested in connection with this shooting. The FBI has now taken charge of the investigation of the shooting.

It was believed that the congresswoman’s offices in Tucson, Arizona, was specifically targeted and vandalized in March 2010, right after the historic health vote in Washington, and possibly because of her support of the bill.

Representative Giffords represents Arizona’s 8th Congressional district, an area that sits on the border with Mexico. She is a popular member of congress with both republicans and Democrats and is well liked and respected by her constituents in Arizona. She is never afraid to stand next to Republicans and to support a cause based on its validity and not along party lines.

Giffords is a moderate Democrat, and was re-elected in November, 2010 for her 3rd term in the US House of Representatives, by a margin of just 2%. She defeated Republican businessman Jesse Kelly, in a fiercely contested race that focused on illegal immigration and the Mexican border security – the two most hotly debated issues in Arizona at this time. Both issues always figure highly in every major political race in the state, but the 8th Congressional District debate is particularly fierce since the district shares a 114-mile stretch of the Mexican border with the U.S.

Congresswoman Gifford is married to Mark E. Kelly, an astronaut who has piloted both space shuttles Discover and Endeavor. They met in 2003 in China where they were serving, and were later married in January 2007.

The diversity of Arizona’s natural environment combined with year round sunshine make it one of the best places in the world to be an archer. Across the state there are a variety of shooting ranges and local clubs that sponsor 3D tournaments and target events that cater to modern and traditional archery.

Tucson has one of the most active archery communities in the state. Located in Southern Arizona along the northern boundary of the Sonoran Desert, Tucson truly is an archer’s paradise. In addition to being home to one of the world’s largest bow manufacturers, Precision Shooting Equipment (PSE), Tucson also has an active local club, The Desert Archers, and a world-class public shooting range located in the Tucson Mountain Park a few miles west of downtown.

Despite its size as the second largest city in the state with a metropolitan population of nearly 1 million people, for a long time Tucson did not have an abundance of quality archery shops. Previously, there were several small stores that offered quality service and supplies, but they lacked the resources and inventory to provide complete service on archery equipment from a variety of top-ranked bow manufacturers. Recently, that all changed with the opening of Bull Basin Archery.

Located close to the I-10 on Craycroft just south of 22nd St, Bull Basin Archery of Tucson is a full service pro-shop that offers compound bows and traditional archery equipment from Hoyt, Matthews, Bowtech, PSE, Elite, Diamond, Martin, Quest, and Bear. They have the most experienced, qualified archery staff in Tucson who is willing and capable to help you tune your bow for optimal performance. Bull Basin also has a complete line of archery equipment and accessories from carbon arrows to quivers to rests and sites. Unlike some of the big box sporting goods stores in Southern Arizona, they also stock equipment that is catered to the needs of region’s bow hunter, with a full line of quality optics and binoculars from Swarovski and Vortex, camouflage, calls, and ground blinds that are suitable for hunting in the desert Southwest.

In addition to a great archery pro-shop with excellent bows and equipment, Bull Basin has an indoor shooting range that allows you to try out a variety of bows before you pick the one that fits you best. The also have Tucson’s only virtual archery simulator, Techno-Hunt, which allows archers to simulate hunting shots with an indoor interactive shooting game.

If you are an archer visiting Arizona anytime soon, make sure you bring your bow and explore all of the archery opportunities the Grand Canyon state has to offer. Across the state there is a shoot almost every weekend. If you plan on being in Tucson, make sure you stop by Bull Basin to try out the latest compound bows and get tips and insight about the Tucson archery community and bow hunting in Southern Arizona.

Since its earliest settlements by western pioneers in the middle of the 19th century, Arizona has always offered its inhabitants a wealth of resources and hopes for a brighter future. Although the Grand Canyon state has transformed with the rest of the modern West and is home to one of the largest metropolitan cities in the United States, the pioneer spirit that helped develop the desert is still alive and well among locally owned and operated small businesses in Arizona.

A great example of Arizona’s business innovation and entrepreneurship is the Phoenix-based answering service, Answer 1 Communications. Kyle and Mary Jones have owned and operated Answer 1 since the 1970s. Their business began as small operation providing traditional telephone answering services and appointment scheduling for local businesses in the Phoenix area. Today, Answer 1 provides a variety of voicemail and answering services to clients across the United States, employs a workforce with more than 60 full-time employees, and generates annual multi-million dollar revenues.

Although the earliest telephone devices predate Arizona’s statehood (1876 versus 1912, respectively) and many people in the answering service industry predicted its death with the development of modern technology like voicemail and cellular phones, Kyle and Mary Jones’ industry insight and business savvy allowed them to evolve Answer 1’s services with advanced client needs and technological changes. More importantly, Answer 1 never lost belief in its greatest resource, superior customer service. In the digital age of email, text messaging, voice-recognition technology, Answer 1 still provides telephone answering services with live, courteous, professionally trained call service agents. As Mary Jones recently told MSNBC, “I just don’t think you’re going to ever replace the person talking to a person, no matter what new, wonderful technology comes along. I mean it from the bottom of my heart: People like to talk to people. They don’t want to talk to a recording.”

With that in mind, Jones trains her employees to be technologically savvy and still offer the courtesy of a friendly, attentive call agent. With seamless technological integrations, Answer 1’s call agents often act as remote receptionists, providing virtual office services like appointment scheduling, message and order taking, technical support, and customer service. They provide a diverse group of clients with a complete set of cost effective, customized answering service solutions.

As dedicated members of the Arizona Small Business Association, the Better Business Bureau of Central Arizona, the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and regular contributors to local and regional Arizona non-profit agencies, Answer 1 Communications is an asset to our state’s economy and a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit of Arizona.
