A somewhat less accessible lake that is located about 80 miles outside of Phoenix is the Theodore Roosevelt Lake. Built by the construction of a Dam built on the Salt River,Roosevelt Lake is the oldest man-made lake in Arizona. Fishing, boating and camping are popular activities in the region however the lake is most accessible via the steep and winding, unpaved Apache Trail. There are several other lakes along the Apache trail as well, including four formed by the damming of the Salt River. However some are dry at different times of the year.
